Holbeach’s e-journals are in the frame

Monday, March 1st, 2010

If you look to the right of the library staff desk in our Holbeach Campus LRC, you’ll see a new bit of library furniture…

We’ve invested in a little digital photo frame which we’re now using to display a slideshow of the ‘top 30′ electronic journals for food manufacturing and agriculture.

(Image: our new digital photo frame in situ!)

Each slide displays essential information about one e-journal title – its publication details, a copy of the cover of the most recent issue, and the details of the University of Lincoln’s full-text online access to that e-journal.

You’ll also see a couple of options on each slide for getting access to that title online via our e-journals A-to-Z:

  1. A short-form web link (example: http://nn.nf/002c), designed to be easy for you to note down;
  2. The same link encoded as a black & white, two-dimensional barcode known as a QR Code. If you have a smartphone / camera phone with the correct software, you can use it to scan the QR code, and your phone’s web browser should take you straight to the e-journal. (QR codes seem to be taking off in libraries… I’d be interested to hear whether you think they’re a useful feature or not.)

We’ll be keeping the digital photo frame up to date with the top 30-ish e-journals in the subjects of food manufacturing, food science & technology, and agriculture.

For the moment, the following titles are in the frame:

***Asterisked titles are also available as current subscriptions in paper (yes, paper!) format in the library collection at Holbeach.
