The problem we were having with error messages on the Electronic Journals A-to-Z has now been resolved, and access to the site is working fine. You can log in to the e-journals via the University Portal.
Some facts & figures about the A-to-Z:
- The A-to-Z now lists more than 43,000 unique e-journal titles.
- Most of the journals listed are paid for by the Library, but 1 in 8 ‘hits’ is to a free or open-access journal.
- The most-used e-journal, the British Journal of Social Work, alone accounts for 1 in 20 e-journal ‘hits’ at the University of Lincoln.
- If the University Library or one of the campus LRCs also takes the printed, paper version of an e-journal, then that paper copy is also listed on the A-to-Z so you can compare our print and ‘e’ access.
- The A-to-Z has a new titles page so you can see what e-journals are new to Lincoln.

We’ve just updated our Electronic Journals A-to-Z with the most up-to-date information on which e-journals are available via the ScienceDirect database, and which years are available in full-text.
The titles & dates are accurate, as far as we know… but if you come across an error, please let us know by emailing: acquisitions@lincoln.ac.uk or by posting a comment to this ‘blog.
Never heard of ScienceDirect? Well, it’s a huge database of e-journals which allows you to…
…”Access over 2,000 scientific, technical & medical peer-reviewed journals from Elsevier Science and other publishers. Search over 40 million abstracts from scientific articles. Link out to articles from over 80 other publishers. Articles are available for most titles from 2002 onwards. The first time you use ScienceDirect via the Portal, you will need to register your user name.”

We’re pleased to be able to announce the launch of a new subscription electronic database for law students and staff… HeinOnline’s Law Journal Library is now available on the University Portal, at: https://portal.lincoln.ac.uk/C5/C5/LawJournalLibrary/

Screenshot of the HeinOnline database.
(If you’re off campus, you’ll need to log in using your Portal network\username and password.)
“The Law Journal Library in HeinOnline is a collection of more than 1,100 law and law- related periodicals. Coverage is from the first issue published for all periodicals and goes through the most current issue allowed, based on contracts with publishers. Searching can be done by title or author name, as well as full-text searching of the collection or select periodicals.”
You can browse a list of individual e-journal titles in this package, on our Electronic Journals A-to-Z website. If you’d like any assistance in using the Law Journal Library (or any of our other databases), please contact your Academic Subject Librarian.

Because this is a new e-journal provider for us, we’d be very interested in hearing about any access problems.
