Interruption to library / I.T. services this Sunday (24th)

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Apologies in advance – there is going to be some unavoidable disruption to certain library services this Sunday, 24th January 2010, as a result of essential maintenance work by University estates / ICT services.

Between 06.30 – 14.30 on Sunday, networked services will be unavailable. This will affect on- and off-campus access to the library catalogue, e-resources via the Portal, and RefWorks.

Our three centres will open as usual at 12.00 noon on Sunday for reading and reference access, however please be aware that PC / Internet access, borrowing & return of books, printing / photocopying, and networked services will not be available until 13.00 (1pm) at the earliest, and potentially not until 14.30.

Our apologies again for any inconveniences caused.

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

Until further notice, the University of Lincoln has trial access to the Literary Reference Centre service from EBSCO.

Literary Reference Center (LRC) is a comprehensive literary reference database, which provides users with a broad spectrum of reference information from antiquity to the present day. LRC is a comprehensive database that combines information from over 1,000 books and monographs, major literary encyclopedias and reference works, hundreds of literary journals, and unique sources not available anywhere else. LRC contains detailed information on the most studied authors and their works and is an essential resource for public, academic and high school libraries.”

You can LOG IN TO THE FREE TRIAL HERE …

(If you are off-campus, you will need to log in using your network\username and password.)

You can also access the Literary Reference Centre trial through the main EBSCOhost platform, and cross-search with the University’s 17 existing EBSCO databases, plus other ongoing trials.

The Library would like your feedback on this e-resource trial: please contact your Academic Subject Librarian (the subject librarian for English is Lesley Church ~ lchurch@lincoln.ac.uk)… or, leave a comment here.

Disruption to Athens service tomorrow (6th Jan)

Monday, January 5th, 2009

A reminder that access to e-resources via the Athens login system will be interrupted tomorrow morning, Tuesday, the 6th of January, 2009, between 8:00am and 10:00am.

Athens-protected services will be unavailable for all or part of this time, to allow for a system upgrade being carried out at the University of Lincoln.

We’re planning this work to fix an ongoing problem which has been affecting Athens access to a small number of electronic databases (GMID, FAME, Mintel Reports, Westlaw), for a number of weeks.

Interruption to Athens – Tues 7th Oct @ 9am

Monday, October 6th, 2008

N.B. all users: Access to electronic resources via the Athens login system will be unavailable tomorrow for approximately TEN MINUTES from 9:00am-9:10am (Tuesday 7th October).

This will disrupt access to:

  • the majority of e-Library databases (FULL LIST HERE), including those accessed via the UK Federation
  • most e-journals via the Electronic Journals A-to-Z
  • RefWorks personal bibliographic software
  • Jorum learning materials repository
  • Some users of TurnitinUK plagiarism software

Library & Learning Resources apologise for this unavoidable disruption to the e-resources service. It is necessary for us to periodically update a security file in order to continue to provide access to e-resources via Athens, and this unfortunately involves taking the system ‘offline’ for up to 10 minutes.

If you have any questions, please contact your Academic Subject Librarian or email: athens@lincoln.ac.uk
