See the FAQs on the Portal for more information, and please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions.

Inter-library loan: suspension of Secure Electronic Delivery (SED) service for new users

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

Because of the ongoing problems with Secure Electronic Delivery (SED) of articles ordered via our inter-library loan system, Library & Learning Resources have taken the decision to temporarily disable the SED option for newly-registered users until we have a stable software delivery platform for articles in electronic format.

We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused, and we’d like to assure you that we are trying to resolve this problem.

  • For any existing users of the inter-library loan service who have been happily using SED delivery without software problems, we can continue to offer the option of SED delivery. Please annotate your copyright declaration form “SED please” or similar.

All students and staff – you can access the inter-library loan system, and place requests for book loans and postal delivery of paper copies of articles, on the University Portal.

“The inter-library loans service enables you to borrow items (or to receive electronic copies of items) from other libraries via the British Library. You can request books, journal articles, theses, proceedings and patents. There is a 50p copyright charge for some requests.”

Update for British Library SED service users

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

If you are attempting to download an SED document delivered by email from the British Library and are presented with the screen shown below, please select Adobe Reader. This should open your document immediately for viewing and printing. The document will also be available to view through Adobe Reader’s Digital Editions for the usual fourteen day period.

Do not select Digital Editions as you will be prompted to upgrade your software. This is an unnecessary step and will result in you being unable to download your document.

If you have any queries regarding this information please contact acquisitions@lincoln.ac.uk. Thank you.

Happy Birthday to the Online Inter-Library Loan Service

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

It is a year since Library and Learning Resources introduced this online service and we are pleased to report that this has largely resulted in comments such as “I’ve received my journal article this morning – what an efficient service”.

Since then…

…4740 requests have been satisfied.

…Over 39% of the articles and chapters were supplied by SED (Secure Electronic Delivery) within 4.8 days, with photocopies taking on average two days longer to arrive.

…Most of the loans requested were supplied within 8 days.

Here in the Acquisitions office we are kept entertained with some of the more obscure requests and each day brings new sourcing challenges so we would like to say;

“Happy Birthday to the Online Inter-Library Loan Service!”
